[Picture] 7/2/2009   [09-D333]   Einstein
Shih Tzu,  tan with black,  Male neutered,  2 1/2 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Einstein and Percy were just too much for their owner. Einstein is still working on his manners, although he has mastered sit. Neither dog spent much time inside, so they just need someone to show them how to behave.
[Picture] 7/2/2009   [09-D332]   Grizzy Bear
Lab,  black,  Male neutered,  8 yrs.
ABANDONED:
Save a seat on the couch! According to Grizzy's previous owners, he likes fetching, swimming and ... watching T.V. Now it's up to you to find out what his favorite program is, maybe by bringing him home for a test drive?
[Picture] 7/2/2009   [09-D334]   Percy
Shih Tzu,  black/white,  Male neutered,  1 1/2 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Percy is slightly younger than his friend Einstein. At just over a year, he just needs someone with a little bit of patience. Both dogs were outdoor only, so they still have some manners to learn, as far as indoor behavior goes. They will be available next week, so please call us at 549-HSWM for more information.
[Picture] 6/30/2009   [09-D329]   Buttercup
Australian Shepherd X,  gold, white and black,  Female,  3 Yr   Collar: yes
STRAY: Blue Mountain
I'm not sure why Buttercup is still here. She was only found at one of the most popular hiking trails in town! She is very friendly and certainly well fed, so clearly she belongs somewhere. Hopefully her owners are out there looking for her, but if not she has already recieved a lot of interest, so she won't be here long.
[Picture] 6/27/2009   [09-D330]   Duke
Rhodesian Ridgeback,  brown,  Male neutered,  2 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Here's an exuberant young fellow who lost his family when they lost their pet-friendly housing. Duke lived his whole life with adults and children, enjoyed the companionship of other dogs, is crate trained and house trained. Duke got most of his exercise time in the yard, playing with other dogs. Now that's all been taken away, and he's confused and a little sad. We don't think a great guy like Duke should have to wait too long for a new family; one that will take him on car rides and let him enjoy putting his nose in the wind; and one that might introduce him to the joys of hiking. Talk to an animal specialist about Duke today.
[Picture] 6/25/2009   [09-D317]   Diesel
Husky,  black/white,  Male neutered,  1 1/2 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Diesel is one dog you have to meet! He loves life, and thinks it's pretty much about having fun. He gets along great with other dogs, and even kitties! He already knows how to sit and shake. Update - Diesel is on a trial run.
[Picture] 6/25/2009   [09-D322]   Coco
Pomeranian,  brown,  Male neutered,  13 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Coco and his brother Bear were surrendered to the shelter because their family was getting a divorce. They are receiving the HSWM deluxe makeover (grooming, dentals, nail trimming - the works!) and will be available in a few days. Please call us if you would like to meet Coco and Bear.
[Picture] 6/25/2009   [09-D323]   Bear
Pomeranian,  black,  Male neutered,  12 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Bear and brother Coco are receiving complete makeovers at HSWM! Don't forget, we offer our Senior for Seniors adoption rate - any person over 60 can adopt at pet 7+ years at no charge. Please call the shelter if you would like more information about Bear (or help pay for their grooming/dentals).
[Picture] 6/23/2009   [09-D321]   Rosie
Dachshund,  brown,  Female spayed,  7 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Rosie was brought to HSWM because her family was getting a divorce. She is described as very shy, and has lived with cats and other dogs. We will give her a few days to get more comfortable in the shelter before she is available for adoption. Please email adoptions@myhswm.org if you have more questions about Rosie.
6/21/2009   [09-D300]   Gunner
Golden Retriever,  golden,  Male neutered,  4 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Gunner's family wants to hang on to him while we try to find him another home. They work too much and just don't have the time to give him the attention he deserves. Anyone want to fetch, swim, or hike?? All of which can be described as Gunner's favorite activities, but then again he is a Golden! If you have questions or would like to set up an appointment to meet with Gunner please call us at 549-HSWM.
[Picture] 6/19/2009   [09-D316]   Lucky
Cocker Spaniel X,  black with tan,  Female,  12 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: My human couldn't keep me, and couldn't find a new home, so I'm up on the shelter website now hoping that someone is looking for a friendly companion who's not too big to handle. Some say I could use a little more training. I think I could use a lot more attention and exercise. Challenge my mind and I'll grow into a well behaved pet. Treat me with love and I'll respond in kind many times over.
[Picture] 6/18/2009   [09-D314]   Charlie
Lab/Pit Bull X,  brown with white,  Male neutered,  1 1/2 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: The landlord wouldn't continue to let Charlie stay with his family. They heard Pitbulls have a bad reputation. Little do they know, Charlie is as sweet as they come. He loves to play with other dogs, especially his little Chihuahua friends. He walks nicely on leash and is very well mannered.
[Picture] 6/18/2009   [09-D315]   Bebop
Jack Russell Terrier,  black/white,  Female spayed,  7 Mo
STRAY: Potomac
So what did I do wrong? I'm a young, exuberant terrier, and I just found a way to get out of my confinement and was just minding my own business doing my running and digging thing when, much to my surprise, I was whisked into a car and brought to the shelter. If you remember me, please come and take me home. If I wait here too long, I'll be ready for a brand new home. If you play with me and take me for lots of walks, then I won't feel the need to escape and be out on my own. Update: Bebop is out on a test drive.
[Picture] 6/17/2009   [09-D312]   Sparkle
Shih Tzu,  white with tan,  Female spayed,  5 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Sparkle was brought to the Humane Society because she didn't enjoy the company of the new puppy in the household. We know that can happen - we have lots of information about introducing pets to other pets. She lived with another adult dog and is housetrained. Please call us if you would like more information about Sparkle. Update: Sparkle is on a test drive.
[Picture] 6/17/2009   [09-D291]   Bridgette
Shepherd X,  tan,  Female spayed,  1 1/2 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Bridgette is Barley's buddy. They were brought in because their owners decided to move without them. Both dogs are very well mannered, and have already recieved quite a bit of training. Bridgette is a bit more shy with new people than her friend. She also lives to play fetch, and is an excellent off leash hiker.
[Picture] 6/16/2009   [09-D308]   Bella
Lab X,  black,  Female spayed,  2 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Bella loves water and is friendly with visitors. She is comfortable being alone in the house for 8 hours. Please call or stop by if you'd like more information about Bella.
[Picture] 6/10/2009   [09-D298]   Jasmine
Lab,  black,  Female spayed,  8-10 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: I bet you can tell by looking , but Jasmine is your average run of the mill Labrador Retriever. She of course lives to fetch the tennis ball. Other dogs are just friends waiting to be made, and car rides can't mean anything but fun! Jasmine still has lots of energy, and her foster mom takes her on a five mile hike every other day. If you are interested in making her part of your family please call us to arrange a time to meet with her.
[Picture] 6/9/2009   [09-D271a]   Brandy
Shar-Pei/Mastiff X,  tan with white/black,  Female spayed,  3 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Brandy is a three year old Shar-Pei/Mastiff cross who was originally adopted from us as a puppy. We knew she would grow up to be big, but we had no idea how cute she would turn out to be! She loves to swim, and she has already had some training. She does have some special placement restrictions so if you are interested please call us for more information, at 549-HSWM.
[Picture] 6/9/2009   [09-D295]   Bleu
McNab/ACD X,  black with merle/tan,  Female spayed,  2 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Bleu is a busy young cattledog cross whose elderly owners just didn't have the energy to keep up. She loves to run, play, and follow instructions. She already knows sit and likes to show it off. Bleu will do fabulous with somone who understands herding breeds and how much energy they have to burn. Update: Bleu is out on a test drive.
[Picture] 6/9/2009   [09-D292]   Charlene
Lab/Aussie X,  brown,  Female spayed,  11 Mo
OWNER TURN IN: When Charlene grew up, it became clear that she required more time and attention than her human could give her. Charlene's breeds would indicate an intelligent, high energy dog that will be loyal to a human, and focus on the one that provides a set of consistently enforced, reasonable boundaries. Regular human interaction and daily exercise outside of the yard will let Charlene use up some of her excess energy, and make her more willing to stay at home. If you're up to the challenge of falling in love with a being that will love you back twice as much, stop by our shelter and visit Charlene.
[Picture] 6/4/2009   [09-D265]   Griffy
Dachshund/Schnauzer X,  blonde,  Male neutered,  1 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Griffy is an athletic little scrapper. He and his brother, Bear, were brought in because their family could no longer care for them. They took a few days to warm up to life at HSWM, but seem to have settled in. Bear has lived with confident cats and is crate-trained. Update: Griffy is out on a test drive.
[Picture] 5/30/2009   [09-D272]   J.T.
Pyrenees/Border Collie X,  black/white,  Male neutered,  10 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: J.T. was brought in with his sister Kalli. They are the perfect pair and seem good with other dogs, cats and kids; and are looking for a home to adopt them together.
[Picture] 5/30/2009   [09-D273]   Kalli
Cattle Dog/Border Collie,  black with white,  Female spayed,  4 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Kalli and her older brother, J.T., were brought in because their family couldn't find pet-friendly housing. She is good with cats, other dogs and kids and loves tennis balls. Kalli and J.T. are looking for a family to adopt them together.
[Picture] 5/30/2009   [09-D271]   Eli
Chow X,  tan,  Male neutered,  Adult
OWNER TURN IN: Eli was found wandering around by campus. He seems like a sweet, middle-aged gentleman. Update: Eli is on a test drive with another dog that looks like he could be his brother.
[Picture] 5/23/2009   [09-D254]   Ty
Affenpinscher X,  black,  Female spayed,  4 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Some of you may have heard about the fifteen hamsters we got in earlier this week that Pet Nebula was nice enough to help us place. Ty is their canine friend. She was brought in with them after their owner could no longer care for the whole bunch. Ty is super sweet and all she wants is to be back in someone's lap. She is obviously quite used to other animals, and is small enough herself to fit in almost anywhere! Update: Ty was spayed and had an eye removed today; and she went to her potential new family. She will be out on a test drive for a few weeks.
[Picture] 5/16/2009   [09-D243]   Scruffles
Terrier/Shih Tzu X,  tan/black,  Male neutered,  1 Yr   Collar: blue with blue/white leash
STRAY: Front Street, Missoula
A perfect name for this fellow, who found himself alone in downtown Missoula. We think he just got untied from his post, and now patiently awaits his return to home. Should his people not come for him soon, he'll be available for new digs on 5/21. Scruffles has a noticeable, but very cute underbite, shows a reasonable amount of caution around new people, and more of his personality is emerging everyday.
[Picture] 5/13/2009   [09-D231]   Rags
Lab/Whippet X,  black with white,  Female spayed,  1 1/2 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Rags was brought in with another dog and her best cat friend. Her owners could no longer afford to care for her. She loves cats, I already mentioned that her best friend is a little tortie kitten we have named Caroline Sue. They love to snuggle and even sleep together! Rags gets along great with other dogs, but young kids can be a little much for her. She knows 'sit,' 'lay down,'and 'load up.' Rags is out on a test drive with a very fun family.
[Picture] 5/12/2009   [09-D237]   Tornado Marie
Chow X,  black/tan,  Female spayed,  7 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Pick me. I don't know how to tell you how much I need a new home, except to try to be friendly and obey all of your house rules. I grew up around human children and adults, I'm good indoors and out, don't bark much, and I obey some basic commands. A cat-free home is my preference, and like many dogs, I'm frightened of loud noises like thunder. If you take the time to bond with me, I'll be a wonderful walking companion. I've got a whole lot of affection to show you, so hurry up and bring me home. Update: Tornado Marie is with a HOPE foster family. Please call the shetler to arrange a meeting if you are interested in Tornado Marie.
[Picture] 5/9/2009   [09-D212]   Beck
Terrier X,  tan with white,  Male neutered,  5 yrs.
STRAY: Potomac
Beck was originally a stray, found running around with his little friend Weezer. They were having a good old time chasing feral cats in the colony. It took us a little while to gain's Beck's trust, but now we can't seem to get him out of our lap. He is a shy little guy, that may have some special placement restrictions. We will know more after his behavior assessment next week, if you are interested please call us at 549-HSWM. Update: I couldn't be happier to announce that Beck is out on a trial run.
[Picture] 5/2/2009   [09-D224]   Badger
Hound/Rottie/Shep X,  black/brown,  Male neutered,  6 Mo
OWNER TURN IN: His human's poor health brought Badger to the safety of our shelter. He's a mix of breeds marked by many personality traits just now coming out. Displaying typical puppy levels of activity, Badger is also quiet at times and can be stubborn. He's used to sleeping in his kennel, and has been known to dig in order to bury a tasty bone. He didn't stray from the ranch of his former home, and was described as good 'off-leash'. Car riding may take some getting used to. This could be the perfect stage in his life for a new owner to provide him structure and mold those emerging traits into a positive, well-balanced dog.
[Picture] 4/29/2009   [09-D214]   Ramone
Poodle,  dark apricot,  Male neutered,  10 yrs.
STRAY: Highway 93 - Lolo
Little Ramone has found himself seperated from his family, which is surprising because he doesn't like to leave your side. He was found in Lolo, and we think he is around ten years old. So far we know he loves people! Any lap seems to do! He also gets along with cats and dogs, as well as he knows many commands. Ramone will be available next week if he is not claimed. Update: Ramone's family has been waiting for a hypoallergenic dog, and hopefully he works out perfectly for them!
[Picture] 4/11/2009   [09-D185]   Anna
Australian Cattle Dog/Shar Pei X,  gold,  Female spayed,  2 1/2 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Anna's previous owners said she was just too pushy for the older dog and children in the household. However, she loves to hike, swim, and of course fetch the tennis ball! We will know more about her after her behavior assessment next week. Update: Anna is choosy about her canine companions and tolerates cats. She can be assertive, but will respond well to a calm, consistent human leader. Anna loves rides in the car and seems to enjoy all of the smells and sights of a walk. We think Anna will show even more wonderful sides of her personality in a home environment. Maybe yours is the right one.
[Picture] 4/8/2009   [09-D178]   Fjord
Elkhound X,  grey/black,  Male neutered,  2 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Originally a stray, Fjord's adopters recently returned him because they just couldn't keep him from jumping the fence. However, they couldn't say enough about his friendly personality and good manners. He knows sit, shake, heel, and he even asks to go outside! He gets along great with kids and other dogs! Update: Fjord is home on another test drive. Our fingers are crossed buddy!
[Picture] 4/7/2009   [08-Ginger]   Ginger
Australian Cattle Dog,  red,  Female spayed,  2 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: If you've ever considered adopting a dog with special needs, now is the time. While Ginger is deaf, she already knows some hand signals and loves people so much, it would be hard to lose her anywhere! She loves food, going for leash walks and snoozing on the recliner. She's smart and enjoys helping her foster mom feed the horses and do chores around the property. Stop by HSWM to meet this special lady!
[Picture] 4/3/2009   [09-D164]   Ellie
Shepherd X,  brown with black, tan,  Female spayed,  3 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Ellie is an outgoing girl who was brought in because she was chasing deer- she didn't have a fence though. She loves to swim, go for car rides and play with other dogs. Ellie has also lived with a cat and seems pretty great with everyone she meets! Update: Finally, Ellie is on a test drive!
[Picture] 2/5/2009   [09-D070]   Majestic
Lab X,  black,  Female spayed,  Adult
OWNER TURN IN: Yeah! We are so happy to report that all eight of Maj's adorable little pups have been adopted into great homes! Now's it's momma's turn to shine. According to her foster family, Majestic is pretty much your perfect Lab. Just because she was a young mother doesn't mean she isn't full of energy and zest for life herself. She loves to play with other dogs. Her and her foster sister are the best of friends and long hikes are the best way to tire her out. She is great on and off leash. For more information or to arrange to meet with Majestic please call us at 549-HSWM.
[Picture] 8/16/2008   [08-D310]   Daisy
Husky X,  black, grey and white,  Female spayed,  6 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Daisy is a shy girl who will do well with someone who understands her breed tendencies and sweet personality. Daisy enjoys going for leash walks, playing with other dogs and relaxing outside. She needs a cat-free home with someone willing to give this nice adult girl a chance at starting a new life. Update: Daisy is in a wonderful HOPE foster home to give her a break from the shelter. Please call HSWM to schedule an appointment to meet Daisy!
