Lab/Cattle Dog X, gold, Female spayed, Adult
OWNER TURN IN: Gabbie is a sweet 3 1/2 year old lab X whose owner left her with someone who could not care for her anymore. She is very smart and already knows a lot of behaviors like sit, stay, come and lie down. She loves to play fetch more than anything and will be a great exercise partner for anyone. Gabbie will be available for adoption after her behavior assessment on 8/29.
8/27/2008 [08-D344] Sparky
Toy Fox Terrier, tri-colored, Male neutered, 4 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Meet Sparky! He's a friendly, outgoing terrier looking for a new home. Sparky knows how to sit and shake and loves fetching and disassembling stuffed toys. He is good with other dogs and lived with cats in his first home, although like most terriers, he likes to chase small animals too. Sparky will be a great new family member for anyone who knows and loves terriers!
8/27/2008 [08-D345] Russell
Lab, yellow, Male Intact, Adult Collar: nylon
STRAY: Lolo
Russell is an adorable adult dog found in Lolo on 8/26. He's friendly and seems to get along with everyone at the shelter including other dogs. Russell will be available for adoption on 9/1 if he is not claimed by his family before then.
8/27/2008 [08-D340] Ariel
Lab, black, Female, 3 months
OWNER TURN IN: Ariel is an adorable young pup looking for a new family to call her own. She seems like a typical puppy who will need to continue to learn some manners and how to be part of a family. Ariel is mostly housetrained though and knows how to sit on cue. She will be available for adoption after her behavior assessment on 8/29.
8/27/2008 [08-D342] Precious
Bulldog/Catahoula X, brindle, Female spayed, 4 yrs.
STRAY:
Precious was found wandering around Florence with one of our tags on, so we picked her up. We still do not know if her person wants her back or not, so we are beginning the search for a new family for her. Precious likes playing outside with her friend, Rufus, and is great with kids too. She is great walking both on and off leash and seems to love people more than anything. Precious has had so many homes in the past year, we want to be sure this next one will be her last. Come spend some time with this sweet girl today!
8/27/2008 [08-D341] Rufus
Husky/Shepherd X, yellow/black, Male neutered, 9 Mo
STRAY: Sentinal High School
Rufus is a nice young dog found as a stray around 8/17. He seems like a sweet, outgoing dog who will do well with an active person or family. Rufus is good with kids and spent time with the finder's dog too. He loves to run, swim and play fetch and will be a great hiking or running partner. Rufus will be available for adoption after his assessment on 8/29.
8/21/2008 [08-D339] Eric
Jack Russell Terrier, white/tan, Male neutered, 3 Yr
STRAY:
Eric is a high energy little dog and this proved too much for his people. He likes people and seems to get along with cats and other animals as well. Eric will be perfect for the person who understands JRTs and is willing to provide structure and boundaries.
8/19/2008 [08-D328] Sadie
Lab X, black with white, Female, Adult Collar: faded red
STRAY: Blue Mountain Road
Labs love to run, but they love people even more. Whether she was abandoned or just got separated from her people, Sadie was found in the woods and brought to our shelter. Now she waits for someone to save her once more. If not claimed by 25 Aug, she'll be available for a new life and a new home.
8/19/2008 [08-D329] Splenda
Lab, black, Female, 3 Yr
STRAY: Missoula Fairgrounds
This busy neighborhood is no place for a great looking black lab like Splenda. We're evaluating this girl, and hope her family will find her here at our shelter by 25 August, or a new family will find her the perfect addition to their family after that.
8/16/2008 [08-D310] Daisy
Husky X, black, grey and white, Female spayed, 6 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Daisy is a shy girl who will do well with someone who understands her breed tendencies and sweet personality. Daisy enjoys going for leash walks, playing with other dogs and relaxing outside. She needs a cat-free home with someone willing to give this nice adult girl a chance at starting a new life.
8/16/2008 [08-D323] Abigail
Lab X, black with white, Female spayed, 3 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Abigail is a very smart girl who was originally adopted from us when we were in our first building. She is a great dog, but did not get along with a new baby in the family. Abigail has already been through a training class and is clicker trained. She knows just about every behavior imaginable including sit, stay, down, leave it, let's go and crawl. She loves playing with her soccer ball, getting belly rubs and being brushed. Abigail will be a wonderful companion for an adult only family looking for a dog with a lot of training. She will surely make someone the perfect new best friend!
8/16/2008 [08-D319] Hector
Lab/Sharpei X, black, Male neutered, Adult
OWNER TURN IN: How can you resist a dog with cheeks as cute as Hector's? He's smart and active and loves playing with toys more than anything. While he will still need a bit of basic manners training, Hector already knows how to sit and shake his paw. Hector is great with other dogs at HSWM and would appreciate a home where he can receive all the attention and exercise a young 1 1/2 year old dog needs! Out on a test drive.
8/16/2008 [08-D325] Fritz
Hound X, black, brown & white, Male neutered, 4 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Because my people moved, I found myself at the humane society for the second time in my life. Once I'm introduced, I like people of all ages and have lived with dogs and cats. I'm playful and easygoing, and would love someone who will take me on runs or walks and just let me hang out along side.
8/15/2008 [08-D324] Tucker
Husky/Lab X, black/white, Male neutered, 6 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Tucker has spent his whole life outside, but now needs a place where he can be invited in with the family. He loves swimming, truck rides and chasing. He would do best with a fenced yard, walks on a leash and loving interactions with people. The payoff could be great!
8/15/2008 [08-D322a] Finn
Hound X, white/black, Male neutered, 8 Mo
STRAY:
Finn and his sister Huckleberry are young, outgoing dogs looking to start a new life with a new family. Finn already knows how to sit but could use some more training and a lot more exercise than he had been receiving. Finn would do well living with another dog and has even lived with a cat before. He will be available for adoption on 8/19 after his behavior assessment.
8/15/2008 [08-D322] Huckleberry
Hound X, brown/white, Female spayed, 8 Mo
OWNER TURN IN: Huckleberry and her brother Finn were brought to HSWM because their person did not have enough time for them. They were left outside all the time and only got exercise they received while in the yard. We want Huckleberry's new home to make her part of the family and be able to provide lots of exercise and training. Both Huck and Finn will be available for adoption after their behavior assessments on 8/19.
8/12/2008 [08-D317] Tundra
Lab/Vizsla X, gold, Female spayed, 2 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: My people said "too many dogs", so I'm hoping someone will take me home. People say I'm athletic, friendly, polite, obedient and quiet. I'd love a family of any shape and size. A yard with a fence higher than 4 feet would be a bonus. Update: Tundra is out on a test drive!
8/12/2008 [08-D318] Cheech
Pomeranian/Chi X, tan, Male neutered, 2 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Sadly, Cheech was surrendered to the shelter when he broke a leg and his home was much too active to permit a good recovery. His family had nothing but great things to say about this friendly bundle of energy. Cheech will have surgery on 8/15 and will recover at a nearby Vet hospital. Please contact us if you are interested in meeting Cheech.
8/6/2008 [08-D307] Caesar
Lab X, black with white, Male neutered, 1 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Sadly, Caesar is another animal who was surrendered to HSWM when his family had to move to a place where pets were not allowed. Caesar is young, outgoing and so handsome! He has lived with kids, dogs and even cats in his previous home so he should fit in with just about any family! Caesar will be available for adoption after his behavior assessment on 8/8.
8/5/2008 [08-D305] Abby
Lab X, black with white, Female spayed, 3 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Abby is a sweet adult girl brought to HSWM when her family found they did not have enough time to properly train and socialize her. Abby has lived with both dogs and kids, but does not have much experience being inside the house. She is an active girl who loves to fetch, swim and go for hikes with people. Abby may just need a bit of training to learn how to be part of a family again. Update: Abby's wonderful personality caught the eye of a great person and she's out on a test drive.
8/5/2008 [08-D302] Twiggy
Lab X, yellow, Female spayed, Young Adult
OWNER TURN IN: Twiggy is a shy girl who just needs a fresh start in life. She has lived with another dog, a cat and children in her previous home. Unfortunately, there was not much time left for Twiggy! She is a little timid and will need lots of love and attention in her new home. Twiggy loves camping, swimming and learning how to be part of a family again! She will be available for adoption after her assessment on 8/8.
8/2/2008 [08-Ginger] Ginger
Australian Cattle Dog, red, Female spayed, 2 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: If you've ever considered adopting a dog with special needs, now is the time. (Strangely enough, HSWM has two deaf cattle dogs right now!) While Ginger is deaf, she already knows some hand signals and loves people so much, it would be hard to lose her anywhere! She loves food, going for leash walks and snoozing on the recliner. She's smart and enjoys helping her foster mom feed the horses and do chores around the property. Please call HSWM to arrange a meeting with Ginger (or Wyatt, a deaf aussie X available for adoption) and her foster mom.
8/2/2008 [08-D303] Chimp
Lab X, black, Male neutered, Adult
STRAY: Arlee
Chimp is a nice young adult dog that was found wandering around Arlee without a collar or tags. He's very friendly and has been good with the finder's dogs and HSWM dogs too. Please call the shelter if you think Chimp might be your dog. Update: Chimp is out on a test drive!
8/2/2008 [08-D304] Spring
Australian Shepherd X, tan and black, Female spayed, 8 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Spring is a nice adult girl looking for a cat-free home. She will be a perfect walking partner (she could stand to lose a few pounds) and best friend for anyone! Spring is good with other dogs and is a mellow, easygoing girl. She will also be available for adoption through our Seniors for Seniors program where people 60+ can adopt an animal 7+ for free!
7/31/2008 [08-Wyatt] Wyatt
Aussie/Border Collie X, white, Male neutered, 5 Mo
OWNER TURN IN: Check out this cute face! Wyatt is a five month old pup looking for a new forever home. He is deaf so his new family will need to continue teaching him hand signals and show him how to be part of a family again. Wyatt is a sweet, mellow guy who loves other dogs and is good with cats too. He enjoys swimming and loves playing with toys and hanging out with people. To learn more about Wyatt or to consider adopting him, please email Jackie at riverbendjc@wildblue.net or ask for Mariah at HSWM. Update: Wyatt is out on a test drive!
7/25/2008 [08-D296] Diago
Lab X, brown/tan, Male neutered, Adult
STRAY: old Walmart
Diago is such a great dog! He's very affectionate and friendly with everyone he meets including dogs and cats. Diago loves going on leash walks with volunteers and snuggling with people in our real-life rooms. He will be perfect for someone looking for a dog with some training and lots of manners. Diago is one perfect dog! Update: Diago is out on a test drive with a great HSWM volunteer!
7/25/2008 [08-D294] Glider
Border Collie/Shepherd X, black, white and tan, Male neutered, Adult
STRAY: Arlee
Glider is a sweet, sensitive border collie X looking for a place where he can be part of a family again. He is good with other dogs and will be the perfect walking or running partner. He will do wonderfully in a home that can help him become the confident dog we know he can be!
7/25/2008 [08-D293] Oakley
Cattle Dog/Pit Bull X, white/black, Male neutered, 4 months
OWNER TURN IN: Oakley is a spunky young pup who was brought to HSWM when his family realized they were not ready for a puppy. He's smart and outgoing and will do wonderfully in a home that understands his exercise requirements and training needs. While Oakley is good with other dogs at the shelter, he may do better in a home without cats or small children. He will be neutered and ready to go home early next week!
7/23/2008 [08-Daisy] Daisy
Mini Dachshund, dapple, Female spayed, 10 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Daisy is a sweet older girl looking for a very special home. Her original person passed away and she ended up at the vet clinic next to HSWM to find a new family. Daisy will be a great companion for someone looking for a lap dog who still enjoys leash walks too. While she may be ok with other dogs, Daisy should not be around young energetic pups (she has an old back injury). Daisy is also on a special diet of IVD venison dry food with Probios powder to control her stress related digestive issues. Call HSWM to speak with an animal specialist or set up a meeting with Daisy and her caregivers. Update: Daisy is out on a test drive!
7/22/2008 [08-D289] Topaz
Australian Cattle Dog, blue, Female spayed, Adult Collar: choke chain
ABANDONED:
Topaz and her sister Ruby are deaf cattle dogs that were dumped at HSWM while we were closed. Because we haven't talked to their owners, we know very little about them. Topaz seems a little more timid than her sister, but ACDs usually take a few days before settling into a new routine. Both Topaz and Ruby seem like sweet dogs that will need a family committed to caring for a special needs dog. Topaz is more outgoing than her sister and seems to love people. She is quite a snuggler and is will certainly bond quickly with her new family. They don't call cattle dogs "velcro" for nothing!
7/22/2008 [08-D290] Ruby
Australian Cattle Dog, red speckled, Female spayed, Adult
ABANDONED:
Ruby and her sister Topaz were found outside HSWM on Sunday afternoon. We were closed and they had been shoved into a small crate together and left with a short note. It can be very difficult to adopt out animals that are abandoned, simply because we don't know anything about them. The only information we have about Ruby and Topaz is that they are both deaf. Please call the shelter if you have any information about these sweet dogs or if you are interested in adopting a special needs dog like Ruby or Topaz.
7/18/2008 [08-D286] Max
Lab/Chow X, black, Male neutered, 6 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Max is a big, friendly guy who was brought to HSWM when his family had a baby and he was less than excited. Max walks well on his gentle leader and loves to hike and fetch. He has lived with other dogs and is good alone inside the house too. Max would be a great dog for someone looking for a hiking partner or for someone without small children. He will be available for adoption after his behavior assessment on 7/23.
7/16/2008 [08-D285] Dixie
Pointer X, black/white, Female spayed, 1 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: While we're not sure exactly what breeds Dixie is mixed with, we know she is really cute and very sweet. She was brought in to HSWM when she and four other (unspayed?) female dogs did not get along well enough. In addition, Dixie was left outside all the time and did not get enough attention or training. We hope to find her a new home where she will get lots of love and a perfect new family. Dixie is good with cats, male dogs at HSWM and probably kids too. She will be available for adoption after her behavior assessment on 7/18.
7/10/2008 [08-D275] Chance
Australian Cattle Dog X, red merle, Male neutered, 1 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Chance is a very sweet, sensitive guy looking for a home where he can be part of a family again. He is so smart and knows all sorts of behaviors like sit, come, shake, go to bed and kiss. He is also housetrained and got along well with a female dog in his previous home. Chance may be ok with a female buddy in his new family, but wouldn't mind being the only dog either. In addition, Chance has been ok with cats he's met at the vet clinic (but he likes to bark at squirrels and animals he sees outside of the fence). Because of the high energy level of his breed, Chance may do wonderfully in a home where he has a job to do. While he has not been trained to work, he would love to help you do chores around the ranch! Chance needs someone who understands the sensitive nature of cattle dogs and appreciates their intelligent and fiesty personality. How can you resist his adorable face?
7/3/2008 [08-D271] Lucy
Malamute X, gray/tan, Female spayed, 6 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Lucy is the sweetest girl. She was brought to HSWM after she wandered away from home and injured herself on a fence. She is still on antibiotics and has quite a few stitches, but she handles everything like a champ. Lucy is tolerant of everything, so friendly and has a wonderful personality. Lucy is good with kids, cats and dogs and will be a wonderful addition to any family! She just needs a secure fence and to be part of a family again! Update: Lucy is out on a test drive with a great person!
6/20/2008 [08-D256] Minnie
Lab X, black with white, Female spayed, Young Adult
OWNER TURN IN: Minnie is a sweet, petite girl weighing only 28#. She has long, slender legs and very cute ears too. She has been ok with other HSWM dogs so far, but we will learn more about her personality after her assessment on 6/25.
6/14/2008 [08-D247] Squirt
Redbone Coonhound, red, Male Intact, Older Adult
OWNER TURN IN: Meet Squirt! He's a special senior guy looking for a retirement home that can provide plenty of exercise and lots of love. Squirt is 14 years old and available for adoption through our Seniors for Seniors program. Qualified adopters (60 or older) can choose from Squirt or any animal over the age of seven and pay no adoption fee! Check the link on our website to learn more about this great new program. Update: Squirt may have found a great home and is out on a test drive.
5/28/2008 [08-D202] Buddy
Lab, yellow, Male neutered, 6 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Buddy is a sweet older dog who needs a very special home. Like most labs, he loves to hike, fetch and swim and would appreciate a home that understands his labby ways. Buddy loved his last family so much that he could be a little possessive of them, so his next family should have experience with setting boundaries and managing a dog who loves his people. Buddy also loves his toys and can be very particular about them. He spends a few seconds each day deciding which toy he needs to take with him when he goes outside each day. And then, he brings the same one back inside again! Buddy is an adorable lab who will appreciate an adult only home where he can just be a lab! One of our volunteers reports that Buddy is one of the nicest labs they've ever walked... he will play fetch till he drops.
4/25/2008 [08-D171] Bud
Pit Bull X, tan, Male neutered, 4 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Bud is a smart, affectionate guy looking for a very special home. Thanks to a wonderful Missoula vet, Bud's TPLO surgery has been sponsored and he is scheduled for surgery on 8/13. A family has offered to foster Bud through his 4-6 weeks of recovery, but everyone would like to see Bud find his permanent home asap! Bud will make the perfect family dog. He's great with people of all ages and other dogs as well. Bud has many loves in life including tennis balls, car rides and snacks. People are his all time favorite though. Bud is such a snuggler and will surely bond quickly with his new family. Please call to set up an appointment with Bud at HSWM or in his foster home.
