[Picture] 5/23/2008   [08-0882]   Angel
German Shepherd,  black/tan,  Female spayed,  2 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Angel was turned in because German shepherds were no longer allowed at her owner's home. Angel is an energetic girl that is going to need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Angel enjoys the company of another dog however she is dominant so would do best with a male dog. Her previous owner said that she was good with cats but she will probably chase cats that run from her. Angel will benefit greatly from obedience classes and it always helps with owner bonding. If you have experience with shepherds and you're looking for a dog that needs a little bit of work but has great potential come and visit Angel.
[Picture] 5/16/2008   [08-0809]   Night Train
Husky,  black/white,  Male neutered,  4 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Night Train came into the shelter as a stray underweight and very nervous. He has come out of his shell nicely and has really bonded with the shelter staff and volunteers. He is still shy with strangers and will take some time to get used to any new situation. He really enjoys the company of other dogs and would probably adjust more quickly if he has a k9 companion around. Night Train will need to be an on leash dog unless he is in a secure yard. If you have some Husky/Malamute experience please come and visit with Night Train.
[Picture] 5/8/2008   [08-0761]   Nivea
Karelian Bear Dog,  black/white,  Female spayed,  6 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Nivea was found abandoned at the shelters community dog park. She is a mature settled dog that does well with adults and kids, as long as they know to treat her gently. She enjoys the company of other dogs but she is a little dominant so a male dog that lets her be the boss would be best. Due to her breeds tendency to have a high prey drive we recommend she doesn't live with cats or other small animals. Nivea would prefer to be an indoor dog w/ a couple long walks every day.
[Picture] 5/8/2008   [08-0760]   Princess
Lab X,  yellow,  Female spayed,  2 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Princess was turned in for not getting along with other dogs. She is a real sweet heart with people, but she is going to need an owner who can show her that she is not the one in charge. She is great with kids of all ages and loves the added attention. Princess will need a good amount of exercise; she is a little overweight right now. If you are an active person looking for a dog who needs just a little bit of work come and visit with Princess.
[Picture] 4/27/2008   [08-0708]   Yo-Yo
Husky X,  yellow with white,  Male neutered,  9 yrs.
STRAY:
Yo-Yo is a handsome retired sled dog that came into the shelter as a stray. He is a very friendly guy that enjoys the companionship of other dogs. Yo-yo does well with kids but he would probably prefer more mature kids who aren't going to be too rough. He has spent most of his life tied up outside so house breaking may be difficult. He will need regular exercise so he doesn't get anxious. Yo-Yo would love to do some skijoring with his new owner, so if that's something you might enjoy come and take a look at him.
[Picture] 4/18/2008   [08-0660]   Rumo
Pit Bull X,  white with brindle,  Male neutered,  1 Yr
OWNER TURN IN:
[Picture] 4/17/2008   [08-0631]   Sadie
Treeing Walker Hound,  tri,  Female spayed,  3 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Sadie is a very high energy dog that will need a good amount of exercise to be happy. She is super friendly and would definitely love to have at least one other dog around to play with. She is great with kids and would enjoy the added attention. Sadie is not completely housebroken so she will need to be crate trained when left alone or put in a secure yard until she has adjusted to the new routine. If you're familiar with Hounds or you would like to be come and visit with Sadie.
[Picture] 4/13/2008   [08-0603]   Swazi
Pit Bull,  brindle,  Female spayed,  5 yrs.
STRAY:
If you come to see Swazi you'll notice that she is anxious to meet everyone that walks past her kennel. She came into the shelter as a stray so we don't know a lot about her past. Swazi would prefer to be the only dog in her new home so that she doesn't have to share any of her well deserved attention. Swazi settles down well inside and she doesn't have high energy needs. A couple walks a day would be great for her. If you're interested in a well mannered dog that just wants to spend time with you, come and visit with Swazi.
[Picture] 4/5/2008   [08-0556]   Gracie
Pit Bull,  red,  Female spayed,  4 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Hi there! I'm Gracie.A fabulous 4 year old Pitbull. I was turned in because my owners were moving. I'm very friendly and playful! I think I would do well with kids, but sometimes I get a little excited and may accidently knock over the little ones. I like other dogs, but I can be picky about my K-9 companion. I'm housetrained and I know sit, lie down, off, heel, and come! I also love to cuddle and will do so all night long if you'll let me!
[Picture] 4/1/2008   [08-0547]   Davis
Rott X,  black/tan,  Male neutered,  5 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Davis is a sweet guy who came to us when his previous owners where unable to find a place that allowed pets. He has had a hind leg amputated, but still runs like he has all four. Davis is a playful and friendly with family and strangers alike, and is quite affectionate. He is great with kids, but likes to be the top dog and would do better in a home with no other pets or with a female companion.
[Picture] 4/1/2008   [08-0546]   Lissey
Pit Bull,  tan/white,  Female spayed,  1 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Lissey is sweet little girl that was turned in because her owners where moving. Lissey is an active dog that is going to need plenty of exercise. She is a little unsure of herself so some obedience training would help a lot with confidence building and owner bonding. Her previous owner said that she was great with kids but she might take a little time to warm up to children she hasn't met before. She would love to have a male dog around to play with. If you have a loving permanent home and an active lifestyle come and visit with Lissey.
[Picture] 3/14/2008   [08-0445]   Willie
Aussie,  red/white,  Male neutered,  6 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Hi, my name is Willie! I'm super sweet and love people and children! I was turned in because I can jump a four foot fence and I have a little problem with chasing cars. So, I will need to be watched when I'm outdoors. I was kept outside during the day and in the garage at night. However, I think I would much rather be inside with my family. I'm very smart and learn quickly with the right owner who has time for me. You may notice I have skin problems on my nose and face. This is due to an autoimmune skin disease. I was on prednisone for a while and that seemed to help, but I can't stay on that for too long. It may improve once I find a home and I am less stressed. If you think you can become my forever friend, come to Heart of the Valley and visit with me.
[Picture] 2/11/2008   [08-0255]   Farfles
Lab,  black,  Male neutered,  11 yrs.
STRAY:
Farfles is a goofy old man that loves getting attention. He seems to enjoy the company of other dogs and would probably enjoy having kids around to give him lots of love. If you're interested in an older well mannered dog come and spend some time with Farfles.
[Picture] 12/11/2007   [07-2140]   Gizmo
Border Collie/Shepherd X,  black/brown,  Female spayed,  5 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Gizmo can be shy with new people especially men and takes a little extra time to warm up. Once she does she is a very sweet and affectionate dog. She enjoys going for walks and hikes and laying as close to her owners as possible. She does not do well with other animals so a mellow single dog home where she can get all the attention she needs would be best. Gizmo is housebroken and knows all of her basic obedience. Continuing obedience training would be great as it would help boost her confidence and socialization. If your looking for a mellow dog that is easy to please come and see Gizmo.
[Picture] 12/8/2007   [07-2129]   Rocco
Walker Hound,  tri,  Male neutered,  4 Yr
STRAY:
Rocco is great with people, kids, and other dogs. He is active hound that will always need to be leashed if he is not in a secure yard. Rocco knows some basic obedience when you can get him to focus and listen, he is housebroken and well behaved. If you have experience with hounds come and spend some time with Rocco.
[Picture] 9/7/2007   [07-1519]   Puma
Treeing Walker Coonhound,  tri,  Female spayed,  3 Yr
STRAY:
Puma is another hound that loves to follow her nose. She is very energetic and requires a good amount of exercise to be happy. Typical of hounds she will need to be in a secure yard or on leash otherwise she will follow a scent to her hearts content. She can be a bit stubborn but food is a great motivator for Puma. She likes the company of other dogs but she will do better with a male, she can be a bit dominant.
[Picture] 9/4/2007   [07-1509]   Khos
Pit Bull Terrier,  tan,  Male neutered,  5 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: This gorgeous brindle girl is very sweet and loving with her people. She has lived with cats and her friend Tyson a male pit X for most of her life. She is definitely a dominant female so if she is going to live with another dog she will need to be the boss. She would do best in a home without small children as they make her a little nervous.
[Picture] 9/1/2007   [07-1469]   Baby Beau
Lab/Chow/Shar-Pei,  apricot,  Male neutered,  13 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Beau Baby beau may be 13 yrs old but you would never know it by looking at him. He is a sweet mellow dog who would love to spend his days laying around on a soft bed and going for a daily walk. He tends to be a little shy with new people so will take a little extra bonding time. He is good with cats and will probably be okay with mature children. He has spent his whole life with the same two dogs. So he may be a little unsure of himself with new dogs.
[Picture] 9/1/2007   [07-1468]   Arrow
Lab/Chow/Shar-Pei,  yellow/white,  Male neutered,  14 yrs.

He was turned in because his owner had some medical problems. He is good with cats, rabbits, and other dogs but might be a little shy for small children.
