RESOURCES FOR YOU AND YOUR PET

Pet Care Information

Animal behavior is always interesting and sometimes challenging. Heart of the Valley recognizes that pets frequently are relinquished to shelters because of behavioral issues that could be corrected with education or training. If we are ever going to reduce the number of homeless pets, then we must provide education and training to all pet guardians.

There are many resources available to help you better understand your pet’s needs and to correct problems. Topics include everything from training basics to dealing with puppy chewing and solving litter box problems. Additionally, the links below provide general information, advice and resources and answer common questions such as how to select a boarding kennel and how to cope with allergies.

Education Programs
How does the shelter get animals? What is the role of Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter? Is there really a connection between animal abuse and human violence? Why does my cat scratch the couch? What is the best way to crate train a dog? Heart of the Valley’s Humane Education programs can answer all these questions and many more. Children and adults enjoy coming to the shelter, seeing the animals and learning their stories. On tours, we discuss responsibility, compassion, and respect. Visitors gain knowledge about animal behavior and training techniques. As one becomes more aware of the plight homeless animals face, they better understand the importance of their role as pet owners. Humane Education teaches kindness, helps break the cycle of abuse and instills empathy, making people better neighbors and citizens. Schedule a presentation today and start learning how each of us can change the world for the better.
